And what to our wandering eyes should appear?

But a snake and a poisonous one I fear!!

Yes, the news of the day is a baby pygmy rattle snake was on our porch. Libby sent Emmy over to get it and realized it was a snake. Joe corraled it into the jar and we were on our way to finding out what it was....Boy it was mean too.....He was shaking his tail and striking over and over again at whatever it could....

About a month ago we had found a baby black widow on our water faucet outside....oh my!

I hate to think that we are a breeding ground for poisonous critters :0

Well...it did make for an interesting day!

oh my!! That's scary indeed! I don't do spiders and snakes! Em is so cute with the curiousity she's showing! It's like she's saying "let me at it"! At least that's what our two dogs would say! (just call me the "dog whisperer"!!) :)

I have good news for you...Hopefully you'll find it comforting to know the snake wasn't a pygmy rattler, or any other poisonous species. There are several clues: 1) pygmy rattlers are pit vipers and this guy doesn't have heat-sensing pits on the side of his face 2) Pygmy rattlers are much "chubbier" than this guy, and 3) most easy to notice: all of Florida's poisonous snakes except for the coral snake, have vertical, football-shaped pupils (like cats eyes). Maybe he's some variety of corn snake or king snake?

That is good news! Shows how much us amateur field guide reading Neus are....although, we did look it up online and our snaked matched a baby pygmy on another site....actually called a dusky baby pygmy....but we didn't see any thingamabobs on the side of his head either...so....just goes to show....we are so not into herpetology! Thanks Dave for the insight!

I think it's cute... we've found snakes in our pool before... (much to the dismay of our friends!) Timothy enjoyed creating a "1-day habitat" for them... actually, hehehe, I used to do that... hmm...

Just remember that if it tries to get you to eat an apple, just say NO!

(You know how at this time of year you love to have apples, pumpkins,...)

Don't worry. We have brown widows --which are more deadly than the black widow-- black widows, and yucky snakes at our house too! Danny found several widow spiders in the garage. Than, we also have these large spiders that jump at you they are HUGE! and gross. Hopefully, you won't have anymore creepy crawly things for a while!!
